Overview

The Sr. Transportation Engineer is responsible for leading technical assignments, supervising the technical production, and managing the general production of PS&E documents such as Intersection Widening Plans, Highway Widening Plans, Traffic Signal Installation Plans, and other similar types of projects.  The Sr. Transportation Engineer will perform or assign and supervise technical tasks as needed to facilitate the successful completion of projects within specified deadlines.  This position will work with the Project Manager in carrying out the development of the work product.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Project Manager to develop, maintain and execute project objectives, timelines, goals and budgets.
  • Produce or direct others in the production of of PS&E plans for Transportation Projects including Highway Widening, Intersection Widening, Traffic Signal Improvements, Pedestrian Improvements, and other similar type of assignments for both public agencies and off-site improvements associated with private entities. 
  • Research and coordinate with public utilities to required.
  • Prepare and/or conduct technical communications with clients as needed.    
  • Attend technical meetings with Project Manager/Principal.
  • Assign tasks and supervise staff to completion of tasks as needed. 
  • Provide technical assistance to traffic planning staff during the conceptual development / traffic analysis stage of projects. 
  • Provide transportation engineering support to other divisions of the company as needed.
  • Serve as the technical liaison with clients on project efforts and coordinate technical efforts within the traffic engineering discipline.
  • Prepare design exception and design justification reports.
  • Prepare and maintain design decision logs during development of project plans. 
  • Prepare construction cost estimates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 7 + years of experience in Transportation and Traffic Engineering at County and Municipal Level.  Experience in private development projects a plus. 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • In depth knowledge and practical experience with Transportation design standards including NJDOT, AASHTO, MUTCD and ADA/PROWAG.
  • Highway proficient in the development of horizontal and vertical geometrics in the development of highway alignments and profiles. 
  • Highly proficient and ability to design in and train others in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Corridor
  • Experience with utility research and conflict analysis during design phase.
  • Experience with NJDOT design approval process, specifications, and construction requirements, and other aspects as necessary to complete a project from conceptualization through construction for private development and local agency projects. 
  • Ability to conceptualize a design and assess cost savings alternatives during project conceptualization. 
  • Experience with Microstation
  • Traffic Signal Design experience
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Software including Word, Excel, Outlook and Project.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Independent and critical thinking abilities.
  • Superior organization skills and delegation ability.
  • Ability to work and lead in a team oriented environment with a focus on staff development and mentoring.
  • Motivating and positive personality with ability to train and mentor staff to contribute to the expertise and professional reputation of the firm.
  • Experience in managing complex design components of projects.
